With a consistent 5-star rating and hundreds of reviews, the academy is praised for its elite instruction, family-oriented culture, and clean facility. Here is a detailed breakdown of what students are saying. 1. Praise for Leadership (Romulo Barral) The most common theme in reviews is the impact of Professor Romulo Barral. Legend Status: Students frequently mention how incredible it is to learn directly from a 10-time World Champion. Unlike some famous figures who are rarely seen, reviews highlight that Romulo is on the mats teaching, rolling, and mentoring daily. Technical Detail: Advanced students praise his ability to explain the “why” behind techniques, specifically his signature Spider Guard and pressure passing. 2. “Family Atmosphere” & Culture Despite the high-level competition team, reviews emphasize that the gym is not intimidating. Welcoming: Beginners often write about how nervous they were to start and how quickly they felt welcomed by the team. The “no ego” rule is frequently cited as a major positive. Supportive: Reviews mention camaraderie among students—higher belts helping lower belts, parents socializing during kids’ classes, and a lack of “gym bullies.” 3. The Facility & Hygiene Cleanliness is a major selling point in testimonials. “Red Shield” Standards: Students appreciate the strict uniform and hygiene policies. Reviews often contrast GBN with other “smelly” gyms, noting that the mats are sanitized constantly and the locker rooms are well-maintained. 4. [**Kids**](https://gbnorthridge.com/kids/) Program Success Stories Parents are vocal about the Future Champions program. Discipline: Many reviews mention improvements in their child’s focus and behavior at home school after joining. Confidence: Parents share stories of their children overcoming shyness or standing up to bullies using the verbal and physical skills taught by Professor Jaeson Bianchi.
