They are entirely separate organizations specializing in distinct martial arts. Gracie Barra focuses exclusively on BJJ (grappling), while Krav Maga Worldwide focuses on striking and reality-based aggression defense. However, Gracie Barra [**Northridge**](https://gbnorthridge.com/northridge-kids-self-defense-anti-bullying-bjj-gracie-barra/) does offer dedicated Women’s Self-Defense classes using BJJ principles. This offers a highly effective, non-striking alternative to Krav Maga. Here is a detailed breakdown of the women’s self-defense offerings at Gracie Barra [**Northridge**](https://gbnorthridge.com/northridge-kids-self-defense-anti-bullying-bjj-gracie-barra/) and where to find Krav Maga locally. 1. Gracie Barra [**Northridge**](https://gbnorthridge.com/northridge-kids-self-defense-anti-bullying-bjj-gracie-barra/): Women’s Self-Defense (BJJ Focus) Gracie Barra [**Northridge**](https://gbnorthridge.com/northridge-kids-self-defense-anti-bullying-bjj-gracie-barra/), located at 19520 Nordhoff St 10th, [**Northridge**](https://gbnorthridge.com/northridge-kids-self-defense-anti-bullying-bjj-gracie-barra/), CA 91324, offers specialized classes designed to empower women through the principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The Women’s Program (GBF – Gracie Barra Female Program) Environment: The class is exclusively for women, ensuring a supportive, welcoming, and non-intimidating space where students can focus 100% on learning close-contact grappling techniques. Core Philosophy: The BJJ system is ideal for women’s self-defense because it relies on leverage, timing, and technique to neutralize a larger, stronger attacker. The philosophy is to control and escape, not to strike. Curriculum Focus: The curriculum is tailored to address statistically relevant self-defense scenarios, including: Escapes: Breaking free from grabs, hair grabs, and chokeholds. Ground Survival: Learning how to survive and escape when pinned beneath an attacker (mount, side control). Control Tactics: Using pins and locks to subdue an attacker without relying on brute force. Mental Aspect: The program builds unshakeable confidence and assertiveness, which are proven deterrents against potential aggressors. 2.
