Best Decision Ever!
Joining Gracie Barra Northridge has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I had wanted to try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since I was a young girl, but it wasn't until I read the positive reviews online that I finally found the confidence to walk through the doors last October—at 40 years old. I'm so grateful I did.
Not only has BJJ given me the confidence I was looking for, but it has also taught me discipline, consistency, and a much greater awareness of my body. The biggest surprise, though, has been the incredible community. Everyone has been so supportive, welcoming, and encouraging. This place has genuinely changed my life, and I can't thank Gracie Barra Northridge enough for that.
A special shout-out to the women's class on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. Professor Teri is warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, and makes every class both fun and empowering. As a parent of a child with autism, finding activities where your child feels accepted, understood, and encouraged can be incredibly difficult. From the moment we met Coach Denner, we knew he was someone special.

Coach Denner has the biggest heart, endless patience, and a genuine passion for helping every child succeed. He has taken the time to understand my son and has always treated him with kindness, compassion, and respect. He never makes him feel different—instead, he makes him feel capable, confident, and included.

The transformation we’ve seen in our son has been nothing short of incredible. His confidence has grown, he’s become more focused, more disciplined, and more willing to step outside of his comfort zone. Jiu-jitsu has become something he genuinely looks forward to, and that’s because of the positive environment Coach Denner has created.

3) Great friendly atmosphere.

My family and I have been training at Gracie Barra Northridge for over two years now, and it has truly become a second home for us.

The coaches, professors, and staff are nothing short of amazing. They don’t just teach jiu-jitsu as a form of self-defense, but as a way of life. The discipline, respect, and mindset they instill go far beyond the mats.

My two sons have both put in a lot of hard work here, and the coaches have been incredible in guiding them. One of my sons is a competitive tournament golfer, and jiu-jitsu has played a huge role in building his confidence, focus, and mental toughness. My other son has competed in multiple jiu-jitsu tournaments and has earned medals while proudly representing Gracie Barra Northridge.

As an adult, I’ve also been training for two years, and the impact has been profound. I’ve gained a deep respect for the art of jiu-jitsu, and the growth hasn’t just been physical. Mentally and emotionally, I’m stronger, more disciplined, and more grounded.

What truly sets this academy apart is its leadership. Gracie Barra Northridge is owned and led by ten-time world champion Romulo Barral, and that level of excellence shows in every aspect of the academy.
