Adults program

methodology

Gracie Barra Northridge’s adult program includes Fundamentals, Advanced, and No-Gi classes, offering a complete progression in Jiu-Jitsu. The Fundamentals classes focus on building a strong technical foundation and adaptation, while the Advanced classes dive deeper into strategy and offer more intense training. No-Gi classes develop agility and body control without the gi, expanding skills for both self-defense and competition

Fundamentals

The Fundamentals Program is designed to guide new students through the essential techniques and concepts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a clear and structured way. The focus is on simplifying the art to make it accessible to beginners while building a strong technical
foundation.

Classes combine detailed instruction, repetitive drilling, and controlled practice, allowing students to gradually develop precision, coordination, and awareness on the mats. Beyond technique, the program emphasizes specific training, helping students understand how to apply what they’ve learned in different contexts. This approach encourages problem solving and adaptability, essential skills in Jiu-Jitsu. While tailored for beginners, the Fundamentals class also supports more experienced practitioners who want to revisit and refine their foundational skills. The environment is structured to be positive and inclusive, fostering steady progress and a deeper understanding of the art

Advanced

The Advanced Program builds upon the principles learned in the Fundamentals class, focusing on refining techniques and exploring more complex strategies within Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This program is designed for students who have a solid grasp of the basics and are ready to develop their skills further through high-level drills, detailed positional work, and increased sparring intensity.

Classes emphasize transitions between techniques, timing, and fluidity, helping students improve their reflexes, speed, and overall reaction time. Students are encouraged to experiment with combinations and develop a more strategic approach to both offensive and defensive scenarios.

Each session typically begins with a dynamic warm-up, followed by focused positional drills that highlight specific techniques and transitions. The latter part of the class is dedicated to live sparring, providing the opportunity to apply learned techniques in realistic and competitive settings.

The Advanced Program is ideal for practitioners aiming to sharpen their technical skills, prepare for competition, or deepen their understanding of Jiu-Jitsu’s strategic layers. The emphasis on situational problem-solving and adaptability helps students evolve from mechanical execution to fluid and responsive grappling

No-Gi

The No-Gi Program focuses on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques practiced without the traditional gi, emphasizing speed, agility, and body control. Without grips on the gi, students develop a more dynamic approach to grappling, relying on underhooks, overhooks, body positioning, and precise control to execute techniques effectively.

This program covers a wide range of grappling strategies, from takedowns and guard passing to submissions and escapes, all adapted for No-Gi practice. Classes place a strong emphasis on fluid transitions, positional control, and maintaining pressure without relying on fabric grips. Students also develop skills that are transferable to both self-defense and competitive No-Gi formats.

Each session typically begins with a functional warm-up, followed by drilling of specific techniques and situational training. The class concludes with live sparring rounds, where students can apply their skills in a fast-paced and adaptive environment.

The No-Gi Program is open to all levels, offering a challenging yet accessible approach to grappling that sharpens reflexes, enhances athleticism, and broadens each practitioner’s understanding of Jiu-Jitsu. Whether training for fitness, self-defense, or competition, this program provides a dynamic and effective grappling experience
